Prime Video to be renamed, will be called Amazon TV: Report

Amazon’s over-the-top (OTT) streaming service, Prime Video, might soon get a new name. As per a new report, Amazon has conducted a recent survey that suggests a possible name change from Prime Video to Amazon TV.

Eligible individuals were presented with a survey that included the service’s logo and a few other details by Amazon. The individuals were surveyed about their opinion on the new name, as well as other potential names such as Amazon Stream, Amazon+, Amazon Streaming, and Amazon Premiere.

Amazon Prime Video to get a new name?

The survey’s image featured artwork from The Rings of Power, an Amazon Original series. Additionally, it displayed titles that are currently unavailable on Prime Video in India, such as Avatar: The Way of Water and HBO’s Succession. The reason for this could be that the survey is standardised across all countries where Prime Video is offered, or it could suggest that these titles will soon be available on the Indian streaming platform, the report said.

However, the company has not shared anything officially on the matter yet. As per the Onlytech report, it is possible that Amazon’s use of the term “free app” suggests a move towards a freemium model. This could mean that certain content may be available for free with advertisements, while a Prime subscription would grant access to Amazon Originals, premium content, and Prime channels that are not available without a subscription.

However, this is purely speculative. It is possible to purchase or rent certain titles from the store section of the website, even if you do not have a Prime subscription.
