Probe into ‘bedrooms’ at Twitter’s headquarters: Here’s what Elon Musk has to say – Times of India

A day after reports surfaced that Elon Musk converted various conference rooms at the company’s headquarters in San Francisco into swanky bedrooms, the city department said that it would conduct a site inspection on Twitter premises for a possible violation of the building code. This announcement provoked a sharp response from the company’s new CEO.
“So [the] city of SF attacks companies providing beds for tired employees instead of making sure kids are safe from fentanyl,” he commented on a tweet by Ted Goldbrg, who is a senior editor at KQED publication. A representative from [the] San Francisco Department of Building Inspection told the publication about launching the probe into the matter.

“Where are your priorities,” Musk further asked, tagging London Breed who is 45th Mayor of the City and County of San Francisco. Musk also said that the company was being unfairly attacked for providing beds for tired employees. Musk’s sharp reaction confirms the reports which claimed that Twitter now has sleeping quarters in the office.
Twitter’s small sleeping quarters
Earlier this week, Forbes reported that Twitter employees were greeted by “modest bedrooms featuring unmade mattresses, drab curtains and giant conference-room telepresence monitors” in the San Francisco office.
One of the rooms is said to have bright orange carpet, a wooden bedside table, apparently a queen bed, a table lamp and two office armchairs. It was reported that the sleeping quarters had apparently been made for employees who have chosen to stay after the new owner announced “hardcore” working hours.
“It’s not a good look. It’s yet another unspoken sign of disrespect. There is no discussion. Just like, beds showed up,” a person was quoted as saying.

Twitter no longer needs several conference rooms as the majority of the workforce has either been fired by Musk or they have resigned. Furthermore, Musk told employees in the depopulated San Francisco office that they “all need to be more hardcore” and put in longer hours (up to 80 hours a week) to make things right at Twitter.
Having sleeping areas in the office may help employees save themselves from the hassle of travelling to and from the office while working extra hours.
