PSL 2021: Sarfaraz Ahmed similar to Virat Kohli as captain, he is very passionate – Faf du Plessis
South Africa star Faf du Plessis has heaped praise on Sarfaraz Ahmed’s captaincy style, saying the former Pakistan captain is ‘very passionate’ and brings the best out of his team. Du Plessis will be representing Quetta Gladiators, led by Sarfaraz, in the remainder of Pakistan Super League, resuming on June 9 in the UAE.
Faf du Plessis, who is one of the most successful captains for South Africa, likened Sarfaraz Ahmed’s style to that of Virat Kohli, saying both are expressive on the field, constantly trying to talk to their players.
Sarfaraz Ahmed will be leading the Gladiators in the remainder of the PSL which was suspended due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Sarfaraz’s led Pakistan to their biggest ICC title win in recent years when they went on to beat India in the final of the Champions Trophy in 2017.
Sarfaraz was the captain when Pakistan rallied against the odds and made a fine comeback in the 2019 World Cup. However, the wicketkeeper-batsman has lost his captaincy spot to Babar Azam who is leading the senior national team in all 3 formats.
When asked to compare Sarfaraz and MS Dhoni, Faf du Plessis said both are quite different but effective in their own ways. Du Plessis has established a fine relationship with Dhoni under whom he plays at the Chennai Super Kings.
“Quite different. MS is quiet and reserved, does most of his things instinctively on the field. Sarfaraz is the opposite almost like Virat. Always talking to the players, always to the bowlers, always very passionate about how he captains his team, and he shows it,” du Plessis told Cricket Pakistan.
“So, there is no right and wrong way. These are just two different styles,” he added.
‘Have always enjoyed playing under different captains’
Faf du Plessis will bring in a lot of experience and add to the leadership group at Quetta Gladiators, who are reeling at the last spot with just 4 wins in 5 matches.
“He’s obviously been captain of Pakistan and has got the best out of players. I’ve always enjoyed playing under different leaders just to see how they go about their business because
“I also am pretty passionate about leadership myself so it’s nice for me to be able to see how he does things and offer my inputs if he wants to take it,” he added.
