NEW DELHI: Qualcomm has already confirmed that it will launch its new flagship chipset on November 30. Rumours suggest that the company may change how it names its flagship chipsets.
Qualcomm has now confirmed that it will switch to a new naming scheme for the upcoming mobile chipsets. The US chipset major said that it will go with a single-digit series and generation number with the newest flagship Snapdragon 8-series platform. So, the company has now hinted that it will not name the upcoming processor as Snapdragon 898.
Recently, leaker Ice Universe and Digital Chat Station claimed that Qualcomm might name the upcoming chipset as the Snapdragon 8 Gen1. The Qualcomm 800 series is the company’s flagship processor. If this is to be believed then in the year 2022, the company will name the next chipset as Snapdragon 8 Gen2 and so on.
The company has not yet revealed that it will rename the lower-tier chipsets as well.
Apart from this, a recent rumour also revealed that the upcoming flagship processor from Qualcomm will be able to offer 150W fast charging support. According to a report by Digital Chat Station, the smartphone that will pack the upcoming Qualcomm processor will be able to offer 150W fast charging support. The report also adds that the chips with 150W charging support will arrive later as the first batch chips are not ready to support such rates.
The report also claims that Qualcomm will offer support for speeds up to 150W in the second batch of chips that will start shipping in late 2021. So, the devices powered by these chips will launch in the first quarter of 2022. The charging speed will enable the smartphone to get full juice in just 10 minutes.
