Qualcomm Will Announce Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 in October
Qualcomm has confirmed the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset launch date. Their latest chipset will be launched during the upcoming Snapdragon Summit taking place in Maui, Hawaii. The chipset will be announced during the two-day event starting on October 24.
The company holds the Snapdragon Summit every year to announce the latest innovations for their SoCs. However, this time the company will be hosting the event a month earlier than they usually do.
Architecture
Digital Chat Station, a popular Chinese leaker, has claimed that the SoC will feature a new 1+5+2 architecture instead of the 1+2+2+3 we saw in the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 and Gen 2 series (via GSMArena.com) They also claimed that the upcoming SoC will have a prime Cortex-X4 CPU core at 3.7 GHz. That prime core is paired with 5 Cortex-A720 cores and 2 Cortex-A520 cores alongside an Adreno 750 GPU. Those five cores are built for performance whereas the remaining two are added for efficiency. As per the report, the SoC will also have its L3 cache upgraded from 8 MB to 10 MB.
The leaker also claims that TSMC is expected to continue manufacturing the chips but with the 4nm process of N4P node. The report claims that TSMC has not opted for the 3nm process yet due to the production cycle. The company believes the N4P is a more affordable approach.
According to Digital Chat Station the model number is SM8650, and the GPU will be called Adreno 750. Expectations are for TSMC to continue manufacturing the chips, moving from the N4 to the N4P node, which is still a 4nm process technology but with a slight uptick in efficiency.
There is also the claim about Xiaomi 14 series, that it will be the first smartphone series to be powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset. Qualcomm’s flagship processor will also be employed in the vivo X100 series, iQOO 12 series, Redmi K70 series, OnePlus 12 and Realme GT5, as per the report.
