Quentin Tarantino: ‘I Really Do Think Once Upon a Time in Hollywood Is My Best Movie’

Picking out the best Quentin Tarantino film is tough for any movie lover, but now the award-winning director himself has said what he believes to be his best movie ever.

As reported by Variety, Tarantino has crowned Once Upon a Time in Hollywood as his top film.

Howard Stern asked the director the question while Tarantino was a guest on his SiriusXM show.

“For years people used to ask me stuff like that,” Tarantino said. “And I would say something like, ‘Oh, they’re all my children.’ I really do think ‘Once Upon a Time in Hollywood’ is my best movie.”

The 2019 movie is Tarantino’s ninth feature film and his most recent. Leonardo DiCaprio and Brad Pitt played two actors trying to make it in Hollywood in 1969, a time of major change for the entertainment industry. Margot Robbie played Sharon Tate in the film.

Once Upon a Time in Hollywood landed 10 nominations at the 2020 Oscars, and Pitt won the Academy Award for supporting actor. Best director and best picture were among the nominations.

The film outperformed as an original drama at the box office, grossing $374 million worldwide.

Tarantino said movies “that don’t conform” are “the ones that stand out from the pack” nowadays. While he usually doesn’t weigh in on current movies, the director said that he loved Top Gun: Maverick.

As for some of this year’s other blockbusters, namely the ever popular superhero movies, Tarantino isn’t as much of a fan. The director recently said that he has no interest in making a Marvel or DC movie.

In fact, Tarantino’s next project isn’t a movie at all, but a TV show. The director hasn’t offered many details yet, but is planning to shoot an eight-part series in 2023.

IGN rated Once Upon a Time in Hollywood a 7.8, saying, “It’s not Tarantino’s best work, but Once Upon a Time in Hollywood still offers fans plenty to enjoy and appreciate.”
