Raducanu sends England squad a message for World Cup quarter-final
Emma Raducanu has sent England’s World Cup squad a good luck message ahead of their quarter-final against France. The Three Lions are looking to make it a second-successive semi-final appearance at the World Cup and Britain’s No 1 female player has a special connection to the team, with England captain Harry Kane said to be mentoring the 20-year-old.
England face a tough test at the World Cup on Saturday as they take on world champions France in a quarter-final showdown, with many fans predicting that the winner of the knockout clash will go on to become the champions in Qatar this year. With pressure building, Raducanu has sent the squad a message of support as she shared her pride at their results so far.
“Hey team, good luck tonight,” the 2021 US Open champion said in a video on Sky Sports. “I’m really looking forward to watching you later. You’ve done amazingly well so far and we’re really proud. There’s such an amazing atmosphere back home and yeah, we’re all cheering you on.”
Raising her fist to cheer them on, she added: “Let’s go!” Raducanu understands what it’s like to have the expectations of the nation weighing on her shoulders better than anyone, as she was younger than England’s 19-year-old star Jude Bellingham when she won last year’s US Open as a qualifier to make tennis history.
