Raiders vs. Chargers weather update: Lightning delays ‘Monday Night Football’ matchup

Inclement weather in the Inglewood area of Los Angeles has forced a delay in the “Monday Night Football” matchup between the Raiders and Chargers.

The game, initially set to kick off at 8:15 p.m. ET, will now start significantly later after lightning was spotted in the area. The call came from NFL headquarters in New York, despite the fact SoFi Stadium is an indoor stadium in Los Angeles. It has some exposed areas in its roof, however, which caused the league to act out of an apparent abundance of caution.

The decision was apparently news to Raiders coach Jon Gruden, who was clearly confused at receiving word of the delay:

8:42 p.m.: The game will now start at 8:50 p.m. ET, ESPN reports.

8:36 p.m.: And now the Chargers are coming out. Surprisingly, more cheers for the Raiders and boos for the home team.

8:35 p.m.: The Raiders have come back out onto the field.

8:30 p.m.: ESPN reports “a power issue” in SoFi Stadium as a result of lightning strikes.

8:20 p.m.: According to the ESPN telecast, the game will be delayed till 8:55 p.m. ET.

8:18 p.m.: The game is delayed indefinitely.

8:15 p.m.: The teams have headed back to their respective locker rooms.
