Ralf Rangnick casts doubt on Man Utd January transfers despite Amadou Haidara links
Manchester United interim manager Ralf Rangnick has suggested his new side might not make any signings during the January transfer window, despite reports linking the Red Devils with RB Leipzig ace Amadou Haidara. Rangnick arrived in England this week after finally being granted a work permit and will take charge of his side’s Premier League clash with Crystal Palace on Sunday.
United tasted Premier League victory for just the second time in nine outings on Thursday evening as they dispatched Arsenal at Old Trafford.
The Red Devils had gone behind in controversial fashion as Emile Smith Rowe struck from the edge of the box while David de Gea lay on the floor with his back to play.
VAR indicated that the keeper had gone to ground after contact with his own team-mate, Fred, and the goal stood.
Bruno Fernandes and Cristiano Ronaldo found the back of the net either side of the interval to turn the game on its head, but Martin Odegaard levelled for the visitors.
United claimed all three points, however, as Ronaldo scored from the penalty spot.
TRANSFER NEWS: Man Utd interim boss Ralf Rangnick ‘wants to discuss’ signing Timo Werner from Chelsea
Rangnick will now assess his squad ahead of his first game in charge before making a decision on whether he needs to bring in reinforcements in the new year.
The German was the man who took Haidara to Leipzig from RB Salzburg at the start of 2019, and the manager is thought to be a big fan of the midfielder.
Haidara is an athletic defensive-minded player, who can bring the ball out from deep and he is a player who could potentially fix United’s problem midfield area.
United have also been linked with the likes of Erling Haaland, Timo Werner and Christopher Nkunku – but Rangnick insists he hasn’t even thought about bringing in new faces yet.
Rangnick will be able to get a good look at his players over the coming week as United host Young Boys in the Champions League next Wednesday after their clash with the Eagles.
The Red Devils have already qualified for the knockout stages of the competition so Rangnick will be afforded the luxury of being able to rotate his squad to cast his eyes over his fringe players.
