Ralf Rangnick’s ruthless decision suggests Man Utd boss has identified Solskjaer mistake

A ruthless transfer decision from Ralf Rangnick suggests the interim Manchester United boss has identified an error made by predecessor Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. Rangnick will be in charge at Old Trafford until the end of the season, with United part of a four-team battle for the final Champions League qualification place.

When he took over from Solskjaer, Rangnick was handed a squad that had badly underperformed this season.

Rangnick has successfully steadied the ship since being given the reigns, winning two and drawing one of his three games in charge so far.

Though he will only be in the post until the end of the season, Rangnick is already making moves to rectify any errors made by the previous regime.

It appears he has identified one major mistake committed by Solskjaer already and has made a ruthless decision to rectify it.

The error concerns the signing of Aaron Wan-Bissaka from Crystal Palace, with United having spent a fee of £50million on the Englishman.

But with Solskjaer having departed Old Trafford, it appears that Rangnick has seen the signing of Wan-Bissaka as an error.

According to Calciomercato, Rangnick has ‘removed’ Dalot from the transfer list, with Roma having lined up a loan move for the Portuguese star.

United’s new boss has blocked that transfer happening, with Dalot having started both of the Premier League games United have played under Rangnick.

Dalot has thrived since being handed that opportunity, helping the Red Devils to keep two clean sheets and providing the attacking threat that is missing when Wan-Bissaka plays.

Those performances seem to have done enough to convince Rangnick that Dalot has a future at Old Trafford.

That future could come at the expense of Wan-Bissaka, who now appears to have fallen behind Dalot in the pecking order.

The ruthless decision from Rangnick to block any exit for the Portuguese right-back is the first example of the German identifying any transfer mistakes made by Solskjaer.

And with Dalot now set to stay at the Red Devils, Rangnick appears to already be making moves to fix his predecessor’s error.
