Ravi Teja, who played for Hyderabad, Andhra and Meghalaya, announces his First-Class retirement | Cricket News – Times of India
“After having a long and fulfilling career in this wonderful game of cricket, I have decided to retire from First Class cricket and move ahead in a different direction in my career,” he posted on social media.
As an opening batsman, Ravi Teja was a regular in the Indian Under-19 setup before enjoying a prolific second Ranji season with Hyderabad. He topped the run charts with 653 runs at an average of close to 60 and that pushed his selection for the Deccan Chargers in the inaugural IPL and a fringe Indian squad for a short tour of Israel.
Ravi Teja played 78 First Class matches and scored 4722 runs with an unbeaten 204 as his highest. He struck 12 centuries and 22 half-centuries at an average of 41.06. He also played 85 List A games and scored 2942 runs and 89 T20 matches with 1618 runs to his credit.
“I would like to thank BCCI for giving me the opportunity to represent India U-19 and India A teams which have been the highlight of my career and which has been an honour and something I would always be proud of,” he said and added,” I am grateful to Deccan Chargers and Sunrisers Hyderabad for all their support. IPL has surely been really a lot of fun, exciting and thrilling. It has been absolutely fantastic to learn from the legends.”
In his more than a decade long career, Ravi Teja turned up for three teams – Hyderabad, Andhra and Meghalaya. “I would like to thank Hyderabad Cricket Association for being the backbone in helping the launch of my cricketing career and moulding me as a player and it has been a great pleasure captaining the side for four years, winning lots of matches, making memories and some amazing friends.
“I would like to thank Andhra Cricket Association for welcoming me warmly into the team and I truly enjoyed playing and achieving some great wins and making some of the most precious friendships for life.
“I feel extremely blessed to have been associated as a professional with a new team – Meghalaya Cricket Association where I had the chance to mentor some young talents with excellent scope in this game and win some of the most exciting games in my career. I’m grateful for the opportunities given by MCA and feel fulfilled to be ending my career with them and this team will always be close to my heart,” he said.
Ravi Teja also took the opportunity to thank his coaches, family and friends. “I would like to thank my childhood coach Apparao sir and all the coaches and support staff who helped me throughout my career. Finally, a big thank you to my parents and sister for their unconditional support and prayers.
“A special thank you to my wife for being a constant pillar of support during my highs and lows and always pushing me to do better and adjusting to my hectic schedule and absence over the years.
Special shout-out to all the rest of my family, friends, and teammates in this entire journey over the years and for making it a special and memorable one. Last but not the least I thank my sponsors Nike and SS who were with me for most of my career,” he said.
