Redfall’s First Big Patch Is Available Now But Lacks 60FPS Performance Mode

Arkane Austin has released Redfall’s first big patch, but the promised 60fps performance mode is not part of it.

“Building a play space this large has been humbling to say the least,” the studio said. “We recognize that we still have work to do, and we plan to address as much as we can, as quickly as we can.”

Microsoft was heavily criticised for showing its PC and Xbox exclusive running at 60fps ahead of launch then, less than a month before the game came out, announcing the co-op vampire shooter would arrive locked at 30fps on Xbox Series X and S, with a 60fps performance mode to be patched in later.

Xbox boss Phil Spencer then personally apologised for the failure of Redfall, which was widely panned upon launch. Spencer said in a May interview with Kinda Funny Games that Microsoft would revisit its development processes in the wake of Redfall’s disastrous release, and admitted Microsoft knew the game would run at 30fps on console at launch when the misleading gameplay was released.

Today’s update, which brings Redfall up to V1.1, includes incremental improvements to gameplay, combat, AI, environment, stability, multiplayer, accessibility, UI, and various bug fixes, Arkane Austin said in the patch notes.

Arkane Austin is focusing on three areas for improvement: enemy AI responsiveness, enemy encounter frequency, vampire combat efficiency, and improvements to graphical fidelity.

“Today’s release is only our first patch and introduces a lot of incremental fixes that will improve Redfall,” Arkane Austin explained.

The Redfall patch comes a day after Bethesda boss Todd Howard confirmed to IGN that the upcoming Starfield is locked at 30fps on Xbox Series X and S. Clear confirmation of Starfield’s performance comes three months ahead of the game’s September 1 release date.
