Redmi Note 12 to launch with triple rear camera setup in India – Times of India

Xiaomi’s sub-brand Redmi is set to expand its smartphone portfolio with the launch of the new Redmi Note 12 lineup in India. The company has confirmed that the Redmi Note 12 series will launch in India on January 5. For the last few weeks, the company has been teasing the upcoming devices in the smartphone lineup which will include — the Redmi Note 12, Redmi Note 12 Pro and Redmi Note 12 Pro Plus. Earlier, rumours suggested that the Indian variants of these three phones will have similar designs and specs to their Chinese counterparts. But, a new report claims that the base model of the lineup (Redmi Note 12) will be slightly different from the Chinese variant.
Redmi Note 12 Indian variant: Change in design
The vanilla Redmi Note 12 variant that will arrive in India will be slightly different from the Chinese model. According to some official renders shared by Xiaomi India, the Indian version of the Redmi Note 12 is expected to house a triple camera setup. It is important to note that the handset released in China only offers a dual-camera system.

The Chinese variant of the Redmi Note 12 includes a 48MP primary camera and a 2MP depth sensor. Just like the Chinese model, Redmi has confirmed that the Indian variant will also have a 48MP main camera, but it is yet to reveal anything about the remaining two cameras. The Indian variant of the upcoming smartphone is expected to feature an additional 2MP macro shooter. The device may not include an ultra-wide unit on the Indian variant.
Redmi Note 12 Indian variant: Expected specs
The remaining specs of both Indian and Chinese models are nearly the same. Redmi Note 12 Indian variant is expected to sport a 6.67-inch Full HD+ 120Hz AMOLED display. The smartphone may come powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 4 Gen 1 chipset, an 8MP front shooter, and a side-mounted fingerprint sensor for security. The upcoming device will also support MIUI 13 based on Android 12, a 5,000mAh battery and 33W fast charging.
