Chinese electronics brand Xiaomi introduced Redmi Note 8 in 2019 as a budget smartphone which became very popular very quickly. This device initially came with Android Pie layered with MIUI 10 on top and even got the Android 10 update. The users of this device in regions like India have waited over 9 months for the Android 11 update whereas the same update was rolled out in China earlier this year.
Indian users who use this device have finally received the 12.0.1.0.RCOINXM ANdroid update that is available in a size of 2.2GB. Although, this update is currently available only to users who are a part of the Mi Pilot Testers program and normal public still have to wait for a few more days.
Redmi Note 8 Android 11 features
There are very few new changes as the ROM is still based on MIUI 12 and MIUI 13 is expected to be launched by the end of this year, but this device is yet to get a glimpse of MIUI 12.5. However, the device is still eligible to run MIUI 13, the company may directly upgrade the device to the same.
Gizmochina reports that the Android 11 update has slowed down some of the devices, but it has added other features like October security patch, navigation pill, horizontal recents arrangement and support for RAM extension.
MIUI 13 can be the last update for Redmi Note 8
Xiaomi usually updates its budget phones with at least three MIUI versions and two Android versions, so the Redmi Note 8 is almost at the end of its life. The report adds that the daily Chinese beta builds have already been stopped for this device along with other devices like — the Xiaomi Mi 9, Mi 9 SE, Mi 9 Lite (Mi CC9), Mi 9 Pro 5G, Redmi K20 (Mi 9T), Redmi K20 Pro (Mi 9T Pro) and Redmi Note 8 Pro. This could mean that MIUI 13 is expected to be the last major update for these devices.
