Reliance Jio, Airtel add users, Vi user base shrinks in September: TRAI report – Times of India
According to the telecom regulator, India’s largest mobile operator Jio added 7,20,000 wireless subscribers during September. Airtel increased its mobile users’ base by 4,12,000 subscribers. Vi subscriber count fell by 40,00,000.
“Total wireless subscribers decreased from 1,149.11 million at the end of August 22 to 1,145.45 million at the end of September 22, thereby registering a monthly decline rate of 0.32%,” the report by TRAI noted.
Only Jio and Airtel added users in September. Jio added 7,24,790 subscribers and Airtel added 4,12,767 subscribers. With this, Jio now has 36.66% market share, followed by Airtel at 31.80% and Vi at 21.75% share. Further, 90.21% market share is captured by private players and 9.79% share is grabbed by PSUs.
Increase in broadband subscribers
TRAI said the total broadband subscribers increased to 81.6 crore with a monthly growth rate of 0.28%. Top service providers are Jio with 426.80 million subscribers, Airtel with 225.09 million subscribers, Vi (123.20 million), BSNL (25.62 million), and Atria Convergence (2.14 million).
These top five service providers constituted 98.36 percent market share of the total broadband subscribers, the TRAI report said.
Mobile number portability (MNP)
In the month of September, 11.97 million subscribers submitted their requests for Mobile Number Portability (MNP). “With this, the cumulative MNP requests increased from 736.14 million at the end of August-22 to 748.11 million at the end of September-22, since implementation of MNP,” the report read.
