Reliance Jio lost over 19 million users in September while Airtel added 0.27 million: TRAI | 91mobiles.com


Jio lost 11 million users in the third quarter. That said, the Mukesh Ambani-owned telecom operator improved its average revenue per user from Rs 138 to Rs 144 in the second quarter from April to June.

According to the data from TRAI, Reliance Jio and Vodafone took a hit on their market share, lowering it from 37.40 percent to 36.43 percent. Meanwhile, Airtel and Vodafone Idea (Vi) managed to increase their market share marginally to 30.4 percent and 23.15 percent in September compared to 29.85 percent and 22.84 percent market share recorded last quarter.

In rural areas, Jio lost around 6.6 million users. In contrast, Airtel and Vi suffered a loss of 0.78 million and 0.74 million users in the rural parts of the country. Jio retained 184.29 million subscribers from the rural area at the end of September while Airtel and Vodafone Idea’s subscriber base fell to 169.99 million and 137.21 million, respectively.

A recent TRAI data also gave us some insights into the data speeds in the country. According to the data, Jio topped the charts with an average 4G speed of 20.9Mbps. Meanwhile, Vodafone Idea (Vi) and Airtel delivered average 4G speeds of 14.4Mpbs and 11.9Mpbs. Speaking of upload speeds, Vodafone Idea offered the best 4G upload speeds and topped the list with 7.2Mbps, and Reliance Jio and Airtel delivered upload speeds of 6.2Mbps and 4.5Mbps. Recently, Airtel and Vodafone India (Vi) announced price hikes for their prepaid plans.
