remedy: Remedy and Rockstar Games to remake Max Payne 1 and 2 for multiple platforms – Times of India

The iconic Max Payne series is going to get a remake for multiple platforms. Remedy and Rockstar Games have announced that they will collaborate on this project, but only the first two games of this popular series will get updated. Both studios will work with each other under a new publishing agreement to remake Max Payne 1 and Max Payne 2: The Fall of Max Payne for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X and S. Rockstar will be financing the project while Remedy will handle development part and has been claimed to be “in line with a typical Remedy AAA-game production.”
Remedy Entertainment has developed games like Control and the upcoming Alan Wake 2 using its own Northlight game engine. The company will use the same engine to develop the Max Payne remake. The classic game was also a result of a partnership with Rockstar Games under the same agreement. However, Rockstar also handled the development of Max Payne 3.
Considering the game is to be developed on Remedy’s newest engine, the project sounds like a total remake that will also have a hefty AAA budget. Remedy has recently been quite successful with Control winning the Game of the Year 2019. For Alan Wake 2, the developer has also signed a new partnership with Epic Games. Now, with the Max Payne remakes, Remedy is planning to return to another classic franchise.
According to IGN India, Rockstar founder Sam Houser said, “We were thrilled when our long-time friends at Remedy approached us about remaking the original Max Payne games. We are massive fans of the work the Remedy team has created over the years and we can’t wait to play these new versions.”
Meanwhile, Remedy CEO Tero Virtala added, “Max Payne has always held a special place in the hearts of everyone at Remedy, and we know the millions of fans worldwide feel the same.”
Virtala also mentioned that the team is thrilled to “bring the story, action and atmosphere of the original Max Payne games back to players in new ways.”
