Chicago Bears edge rusher Khalil Mack is not expected to suit up for Sunday’s tilt against the San Francisco 49ers due to a nagging foot injury, according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport and Mike Garafolo.
Mack is also reportedly facing the prospect of time on injured reserve, though a final judgment hasn’t been made yet.

#Bears Pro Bowl pass-rusher Khalil Mack is not expected to play this week, per @MikeGarafolo and me, as the team will allow his ailing foot to rest. Giving him three weeks while on Injured Reserve to heal and rehab is being discussed. A significant blow to the Chicago defense.

If the #Bears place Khalil Mack on IR, he’s out three games but four weeks, as Chicago has a bye in Week 10. That extra time may help. Somehow, Mack has been playing on his foot, but it’s been a struggle every week to get on the field. https://t.co/HHgbyFkZ3d
Mack, 30, has been productive through the first seven weeks of the 2021 season. To date, the six-time Pro Bowler has racked up six sacks, 19 tackles and a fumble recovery for a Chicago team that has generally struggled to find its footing.
Without Mack anchoring one side of the pass rush, the Bears will need to hope Trevis Gipson can step up opposite Robert Quinn.
Gipson, who has played 30.8 percent of the Bears’ defensive snaps so far this season, has notched two sacks and 10 tackles through seven games.
