rockstar games: GTA V becomes second best-selling game of all time, claims publisher – Times of India

Grand Theft Auto V has sold 160 million copies since its release, an accomplishment that has made it the second best-selling game of all time, as per the latest investor presentation by Take Two Interactive, which owns Rockstar Games.
Minecraft holds the crown selling the most number of copies for any single game, a number that stood at 200 million by 2020, as per a report by Statista.
Grand Theft Auto V is a single game and with that many sales, it has actually rivalled and gone past entire established franchises like Assassin’s Creed. As per a report by Statista, by November 2020, the entire Assassin’s Creed franchise, barring just Valhalla, had sold 155 million copies. Even after adding the sales of Assassin’s Creed Valhalla to the franchise, the sales of GTA V lie extremely close to the total sales of the Assassin’s Creed franchise.
After knowing that GTA V alone sold 160 million copies, you would be curious to know about how many copies did the entire GTA franchise sell. Well, Take Two has the figures for that too. As per the video game publisher, the entire Grand Theft Auto franchise has, in total, sold over 370 million units.
Rockstar Games earlier confirmed that a new GTA game is under development. The US-based video game developer confirmed this through its Twitter handle. Rockstar Games also mentioned in the thread that it would soon reveal more details about the upcoming game via its official website. Considering how popular GTA V turned out to be, the next GTA game is a high-stakes game for the publisher, both literally and figuratively, with immense expectations from fans.
