Rockstar signals GTA Trilogy Definitive Edition for mobiles, PCs and consoles – Times of India

Rockstar Games has confirmed that Grand Theft Auto III, Vice City, and San Andreas are each getting HD remasters. They’ll be released in a package called Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition.
The collection will be coming to PC (via the Rockstar Games Launcher), PlayStation, Xbox and the Nintendo Switch will also host them. It will come to iOS and Android in the first half of 2022. The pricing and release date hasn’t been shared officially yet.
The Verge reports that Rockstar Games hasn’t explicitly mentioned what kind of technical improvements were made, nor has it shared any footage yet. But it said that each of the games has got“across-the-board upgrades including graphical improvements and modern gameplay enhancements.” The company chose to take the faithful route for its remasters, leaving “the classic look and feel of the originals” how they were presented on PS2.
Grand Theft Auto V was launched eight years ago and it might feel weird to play a Grand Theft Auto game that doesn’t let you swap between protagonists, but the adventures of Claude, the silent protagonist in GTA III; Tommy Vercetti in Vice City; and CJ in San Andreas are still worth a shot.
Rockstar says that it will announce more about the collection of games in the coming weeks. But ahead of the launch, it’ll begin removing existing versions of each title from digital storefronts next week. GTA 5’s new-gen ports were delayed from November 2021 to March 2022 recently, so it seems this new collection could be filling its place in the release schedule.
According to ScreenRant, Rockstar will be using these remasters as a way to gauge interest for remasters for other past games. Rockstar is reportedly circling a remaster of Red Dead Redemption, though it’s unclear if the developer would put in a greater level of effort for that remaster. If the GTA remaster trilogy is a sales success, it’s possible more classic Rockstar games could get the remaster treatment in the coming years.
