Rohit Sharma, Yashasvi Jaiswal join elite list of Indian openers in just two Tests | Cricket News – Times of India
Rohit Sharma and Yashasvi Jaiswal achieved a remarkable feat during the second Test against West Indies at Port of Spain, becoming the fourth opening pair in Indian cricket history to record two century partnerships in away Tests.
The new Indian opening duo continued their excellent form from the previous Test, where they had a double-century partnership.
On Thursday, they put together an impressive opening stand of 139 runs, which ended with the fall of Jaiswal’s wicket for 57.Rohit went on to score 80.This achievement puts them in esteemed company, as only three other opening pairs from India have achieved such a milestone in away Test matches for India.

In terms of consecutive century partnerships, the Indian opening pair with the highest number is Sehwag and Murali Vijay, followed by Gavaskar and Farookh Engineer, Gavaskar and Anshuman Gaikwad, Gavaskar and Arun Lal and Sadagoppan Ramesh and Devang Gandhi.

At the end of the first day’s play in the second Test, India had reached 288/4, with Virat Kohli (87*) and Ravindra Jadeja (36*) at the crease.
