Romeo Lavia to Liverpool latest as Chelsea eye hijack after Jurgen Klopp hint

Liverpool are looking to make Southampton midfielder Romeo Lavia their third signing of the summer after Dominik Szoboszlai and Alexis Mac Allister. The Reds have had a £37million bid rejected for the Belgian who is valued at £50m by the Saints and also has interest from Arsenal and Chelsea. Express Sport rounds up all the latest updates regarding Lavia to Liverpool…

Chelsea hijack

Chelsea are considering a move to sign Lavia after being frustrated in their bid to buy Moises Caicedo from Brighton. The Seagulls are demanding £100m for the Ecuadorian.

The Blues have had two bids – the latest being £80m – rejected for Caicedo, 21. Per The Times, Mauricio Pochettino is weighing up whether to move for 19-year-old Lavia as a cheaper alternative.

The teenager is understood to be sold on working with Jurgen Klopp at Liverpool but any deal is entirely dependent on the Reds presenting a bid to Southampton that is acceptable, which they have not done so yet.

Jurgen Klopp hint

Liverpool boss Klopp has made it clear he is on the hunt for more midfielders after losing captain Jordan Henderson to Saudi Arabia, where Fabinho is also headed.

The German said after a rejected bid for Lavia: “It’s definitely important to strengthen in midfield. We have to do something, that is clear.

“We are working on solutions. First people want changes, now everyone is worrying about the changes. We are really optimistic about it. Excited as well.”

Talks continue this week

Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has confirmed to Caught Offside that talks between Liverpool and Southampton will continue this week to wrap up an agreement.

The south coast club are insisting on a £50m package with Liverpool valuing him at slightly less. Lavia is the ‘priority’ target for Klopp and co per Romano who also added that it is possible more midfielders follow after him.
