Many players have been wondering why Square Enix would let go of its studios and valuable IPs in such a haste and a reduced price point. This has sparked confusion in a lot of player’s minds and has them wondering what does this move entail for the future of Square Enix in the gaming industry.
One of the industry professionals, Jeff Grubb, had some things to stay about Square Enix’s plans for the future. According to his latest tweet and information revealed by him earlier, it seems that Square Enix might be letting go of its major studios and popular IPs in order to streamline the company for a potential acquisition.
In his tweet he mentions that he never really hears enough to report about acquisitions, but according to him the rumour is that Sony seems to be the potential buyer for this popular game developer. Acquisitions are something that are not revealed to the public until the agreement is made. Same was the case when Sony acquired Bungie and when Microsoft acquired Activision-Blizzard.
OK. I’ve said this a thousand times, but there’s always someone who is hearing it for the first time: We never really hear enough to report on acquisitions with any certainty. Sony acquiring Square was the big rumor. But I CANNOT confirm that. And I continue to not know. pic.twitter.com/5ZKJruszCE

Sony acquiring Square Enix will not come as a surprise as they have already had arrangements with these developers in the past to release titles exclusively on their platform. If this deal does come through, Sony will have exclusivity over iconic franchises such as Final Fantasy, Kingdom Hearts and more, which comes as great news for the fans.
In the end this information is just a rumour and the players should take it with a grain of salt. There is no way of confirming whether Sony will actually acquire Square Enix or some other company will come in and scoop it up as a surprise. Players should wait for an official announcement to know what lies in the future for Square Enix and its games.
