Samsung Galaxy S23 vs Galaxy A54? Here’s how the two lime-coloured phones compare | Digit
Samsung Galaxy S23 borrows the lime from Galaxy A54. The lime edition of Galaxy S23 is launching in India on May 16 at 12 noon. Let’s see how different is the popular Galaxy A-series phone compared to the flagship. Now, we can only know how the two colours differ when we see them in life, but here we can check out their on-paper specs differences.
1. Samsung Galaxy S23 is a lighter and slimmer phone compared to the Galaxy A54. They both share similar design cues. However, note that the S23 offers a stronger build thanks to the Armor Aluminum frame, and Gorilla Glass Victus 2 on the front and back. You also get better protection on the S23 (IP68 rating) against dust and water. The A54 has a slightly less reassuring IP67 certification.
2. The flagship phone comes with a flagship chipset, viz. Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 SoC. On the other hand, Samsung uses a more modest processor called Exynos 1380 SoC inside the Galaxy A54.
3. Although both phones have a 50MP main camera sensor, the rest of the optics and algorithmic tuning will be better on the costlier phone. One could argue the 3x telephoto zoom lens on the S23 is better than the 5MP macro module on the Galaxy A54.
In the case of the front camera, even if Galaxy A54 has a larger 32MP camera, the 12MP sensor on the Galaxy S23 should fare better.
Even on the video side, the Galaxy S23 can shoot at up to 8K30 fps from the back and 4K60 fps from the front while the Galaxy A54 can only record at up to 4K 30 frames per second from both front and back.
4. Samsung has packed a bigger 5000mAh battery inside the Galaxy A54 with 25W (PD) charger. Even though the supported charging speed is the same, the Galaxy S23 has a 3900mAh cell only. The Galaxy S23 supports 15W (Qi-compliant) wireless charging also.
5. Samsung has outfitted a smaller (but very comfortable) 6.1-inch 120Hz FHD+ Dynamic AMOLED display. The A54 also has a 120Hz FHD+ screen but is Super AMOLED in nature and 6.4 inches in size. Galaxy S23 also comes with higher peak brightness and should appear better in overall quality.
Even the intangibles like sound and vibration should be better on the Galaxy S23. Finally, in terms of connectivity, Samsung gives WiFi 6e and USB-C 3.2 port on the S23 and only WiFi 6 and USB-C 2.0 socket on the A54.
Now you know where Samsung has cut corners with the Galaxy A54. However, for the price you pay, it is a decent buy. It is also one of the strong Google Pixel 7A alternatives in India.
