samsung: Nokia could have plans for a budget phone with Samsung chipset – Times of India
HMD Global may have partnered with Samsung for its Exynos chipset to be used in one of its upcoming phones as a Nokia device with codename Suzume has been spotted on the Geekbench listings, as per a report by GSMArean.
Nokia has been tipped to have four smartphones in the works. However, the Nokia Suzume got a single core score of 306 points and a multi core score of 1000, which hints at the device being an entry-level one.
Nokia usually does not have faster processors in its budget smartphones and this does not work out with sales as the rivals are giving better processors with their budget devices, sometimes at lower prices too, which is making HMD Global hurt. The company has used Qualcomm and MediaTek processors in its devices till now and a Samsung Exynos processor might improve the prospects of the company.
As per the listing, the Nokia Suzume would have an octa-core Exynos processor powering it. The processor is codenamed Universal74488, which is rumoured to be the Exynos 7884 chipset which Samsung has used in its budget devices like Galaxy A10 and the Galaxy A20. The Suzume handset may also come with 3GB RAM and Android 12 OS but there is also a possibility that Nokia may have higher RAM options with the device.
Rumours abound but there has been no confirmation from either company regarding the launch on such a device. We’ll have to wait for more details on a Nokia phone powered by a Samsung Exynos chipset. From the side of Samsung, it looks like it could favour Nokia in the smartphone market swarming with Chinese brands.
