Samsung to launch more foldables including Galaxy Z Flex, Galaxy Z Tab, Flip/Fold Ultra: Report

What the new Samsung foldables may offer

According to the teaser post, all of Samsung’s plans are reserved for post-2024, which suggests that any of the said new devices would not be officially seen or heard of until at least 2025. The new lineup starts with a Galaxy Z Flex, which could seemingly offer a triple folding display panel, instead of the simple folding layout. There is also a Galaxy Z Tab, which may reportedly feature a stretchable display panel that could translate to a foldable tablet that doubles up as a smartphone.

The other two new devices are ‘Ultra’ variants of the existing Galaxy Z Fold and Z Flip smartphones, and they could bring resolution upgrades to the existing device form factors. According to the tweet, the Z Fold Ultra could feature a 4K resolution folding display manufactured by BOE, while the Z Flip Ultra would upgrade its resolution to 2K.

The rumours do not seem too far-fetched, since Samsung’s own display fabrication division already has a whole webpage dedicated to flexible and folding OLED panels. The webpage details form factors including slidable and rollable displays, suggesting that the brand already has production-grade folding and flexing display variants up its sleeve. Nevertheless, it now remains to be seen if the rumours match up with the company’s production plans.

Other information tipped by the tweet include the release of a Galaxy K series to replace devices from the Galaxy A series, and removal of the Galaxy S ‘Plus’ variants — to be swapped with Galaxy S ‘Premium’. It’s not clear if the latter would just be a rebranding exercise, or would see a reshuffle of the Ultra and the mid-tier flagship models.
