Samsung Upgrade Program: What you need to know

Samsung has done it once again and revealed its new range of foldable phones which will hit UK stores in the coming weeks. Fresh to the range are the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5 and the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5 which arrive packed with new features and impressive upgrades.

The Galaxy Z Fold 5 includes a giant tablet-style main display, longer battery life, an improved Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 processor and an improved design which makes it lighter in the hand.

Meanwhile, the Z Flip 5 features a new Flex Window front display which is 3.78 times larger than the previous generation.

But with mega upgrades comes mega prices. The cheapest Galaxy Z Fold 5 comes in at £1,749 while the cheapest Flip Z 5 comes in at £1,049 which can really leave you with little money for the rest of the month.

But if you want to let that money stretch a bit further, you might not have known about the Samsung Upgrade Programme which allows you to purchase the latest Galaxy device and then upgrade every year – all for low monthly repayments.

The Samsung Upgrade programme allows mega fans to pay an upfront and then monthly payments to upgrade their phones every year.

You sign up for a credit agreement with Samsung through their finance broker Klarna which is interest-free so you don’t have to worry about paying more than you usually do for a new phone.

After the first 12 months of signing up to the programme, you can either continue with the repayments of the old phone or open a new agreement and upgrade to the newest phone.

With the release of the new Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Galaxy Z Flip 5, you can sign up to the programme for either phone when they release.

However, the Samsung Upgrade programme doesn’t come with a SIM that includes data or phone calls so in order to use the phone, you’ll have to buy a SIM card from a provider like Vodafone or Sky to use it to its full capability.

When you choose either phone you want, you pay 10 per cent of the price upfront then you pay 23 interest-free instalments and then a 24th final instalment – which is larger than the 23 instalments – in order to keep the phone.

So for example, if you want the 256GB Galaxy Z Fold5 you would pay an upfront payment of £174.90 then 23 monthly instalments of £53.23 then a final repayment of £349.80.

But if you don’t want to keep the device, you can choose to swap the phone and return it to Samsung for exchange of a new phone at any time between months 12 and 24.

If you’re already part of the Samsung upgrade programme, you must send your old Galaxy device within 7 days of receiving your new Galaxy device.

However, you must be over the age of 18 to purchase a phone through Samsung’s upgrade programme and you must make repayments in accordance with your credit agreement.
