Scars Above could be a cool new sci-fi action adventure romp

From Prime Matter

Scars Above is out and about for keeps now thanks to a Gamescom Opening Night Live reveal, and I’m still not sold, but I am on deck for it!

This is from Prime Matter, Koch Media’s “premium gaming label,” where Payday 3 and others lie, so there’s some inherent promise there that it’ll be given the budget it needs. At a glance, it looks like it’s a story about awakening something humanity shouldn’t have.

Mad Head Games describes it as a “challenging” third-person action-adventure game on an alien planet. The protagonist, an astronaut named Kate, will have to use “ranged weapons, devices, consumables, and melee attacks to survive.” The developers also mentioned elemental attacks, managing stamina for dodges, and crafting “different items and gadgets to aid you against the countless threats in this exoplanet.”

“Kate is a scientist to her core, and you’ll use that scientific expertise to extract information from your surroundings by scanning artifacts, materials, and creatures in order to learn about their features, properties, and weaknesses,” according to the Serbia-based studio. “As you explore your surroundings, you will conduct analysis and gain knowledge that will allow you to craft new gadgets, weapons, and unlock abilities in Xenobiology and Engineering trees.”

Scars Above is coming to PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X in early 2023. Did you remember it was shown off in 2021? Me neither!
