Seahawks’ Pete Carroll on team signing Adrian Peterson: ‘We finally got him’

Adrian Peterson is back in the NFL, this time with Seattle and Pete Carroll, who will finally coach the running back after trying many years ago.

Caroll told reporters during his media availability Wednesday that the organization was working to sign the 36-year-old Peterson to its practice squad. He then brought up that he failed to sign Peterson in the 2000s while coaching at USC.

“We finally got him,” Carroll said.

Peterson chose Oklahoma as his collegiate team.

After Carroll’s announcement, NFL reporter Josina Anderson tweeted that Peterson texted her to say he had “just signed.”

The Titans waived Peterson on Nov. 23 as part of a series of roster moves. He played in three games for Tennessee after being signed to its practice squad on Nov. 2 and racked up 82 yards and a touchdown rushing.

Seattle adding Peterson isn’t a huge surprise because most of the Seahawks’ rushing core is on injured reserve or recovering from injury. Leading rusher Alex Collins returned from a groin injury Monday during the Seahawks’ 17-15 loss to Washington. He rushed seven times for 14 yards and lost a fumble.

The Seahawks (3-8) are last in the NFC West. Adding Peterson could potentially boost their chances of earning statement wins in their final six games.

Peterson could easily work his way up from the practice squad to the Seahawks’ 53-man roster for Sunday’s game vs. the 49ers. If he isn’t added for the game, his next potential debut would be in Week 14 on the road vs. Houston, in his home state of Texas.
