Secret Invasion: Agent Maria Hill Actress Cobie Smulders Discusses the Future of Her Character

The very first episode of the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s latest Disney+ release, Secret Invasion ended in a shocking turn of events. Maria Hill portrayed by Cobie Smulders seemingly dies, sending MCU fans online in a frenzy. Days after the release, Smulders addressed her characters death in a recent interview, along with rumors of her appearance in The Marvels.

Smulders on Agent Maria Hill’s death in Secret Invasion

In an interview with Vanity Fair Smulders was asked if “Is Hill really dead?”. She went on to explain that she didn’t even know that in Spider-Man: Far From Home, she technically was playing a shapeshifting Skrull (Talos’ wife Soren) in the guise of Maria Hill.

“I mean, I didn’t know I was an alien in Spider-Man. There is a multiverse now, so anything is possible. But I’m pretty sure this is it. It felt and it feels strange. Maria Hill’s passing is very real, and it’s shocking, and it feels very human. It was a sad day.”

She was eventually asked about her rumored upcoming appearance in The Marvels, alongside Brie Larson, Iman Vellani, Teyonah Parris and Samuel L. Jackson. She denied the rumors saying “I don’t know anything about that.”

However, as Smulders herself believes, anything is possible in the multiverse. Therefore there’s always the chance of bringing back any character we know to be dead in the MCU. So Agent Hill might just be brought back, or maybe she’s only seemingly dead as the rumors suggest. Regardless, we’ll have to wait a few more episodes to get to the bottom of that.
