HIGHLIGHTS

  • Yuvraj Singh smashed 6 sixes in Stuart Broad’s over in T20 World Cup 2007
  • Yuvraj Singh took Stuart Broad to the cleaners in the 19th over
  • India went on to win the match against England by 18 runs

Former India all-rounder Yuvraj Singh scripted history on 19th September 2007 to become the first-ever batsman to hit six consecutive sixes in an over in a T20I match in the first-ever T20 World Cup. It was in the 19th over of India’s innings, when Yuvraj took Broad to the cleaners, hitting him for 6 sixes in all corners of the ground to take India’s total over the 200-run mark.

In this match between India and England, the Men in Blue had won the toss and opted to bat first. Yuvi came out to bat when Robin Uthappa’s wicket fell and he provided the late flourish allowing India to post 218 runs on the board.

The drama began when the Men in Blue were on 171/3 at the end of the 18th over in their first innings. With Yuvraj and then skipper MS Dhoni at the crease, the duo was looking to finish off on a high by collecting as many runs in the death overs.

The verbal altercation with Andrew Flintoff in the 18th over pumped up Yuvraj and it was Stuart Broad who bore the brunt of his onslaught in the very next over.

Yuvraj hit the first ball of the 19th over, over deep mid-wicket. The next over backward square leg, the third one over wide long-off, then a swat over the deep point to a full toss, the fifth one a hoick over square leg and finally a massive hit over wide long-on

India went on to win the match against England by 18 runs. The Men in Blue were able to win the inaugural ICC T20 World Cup in 2007 and Yuvraj was a vital player for the team in the tournament.
