Sheff Wed hero Josh Windass trolls Barnsley boss after Championship promotion

Sheffield Wednesday’s play-off hero Josh Windass aimed a brutal dig at Barnsley boss Michael Duff just moments after clinching promotion to the Championship with a dramatic late winner. The attacking midfielder produced a sensational 123rd-minute winner in extra time to seal a 1-0 win and in the midst of the celebrations at Wembley, Windass had a message for Duff and their detractors.

The Owls struggled to find a way past 10-man Barnsley until the third of minute stoppage time in extra-time when Windass headed home the winning goal to send Wednesday back to the Championship with their first promotion since 2012.

It represents a remarkable comeback for Darren Moore’s side, who lost the semi-first first leg 4-0 to Peterborough before a 5-1 success at Hillsbrough forced penalties, and the hosts made it through to the final to face Yorkshire rivals Barnsley.

And after settling a tightly-contested final, Windass had a message for Barnsley boss Duff, who had dashed their hopes of a comeback in that Peterborough defeat.

“I heard their [Barnsley] manager [Duff] left our game against Peterborough cause he said we were out,” Windass said. “So yeah, unlucky.”
