Mikami is known for creating the Resident Evil series at Capcom, serving as the director of the very first entry, as well as 2005’s Resident Evil 4 (on which the 2023 remake is based). He’s also credited as the director of the 2002 remake of the first Resident Evil game, and even worked on Dino Crisis. The last game Mikami directed at Capcom was God Hand, an action beat-’em-up from developer Clover Studio in 2006.

He then left Capcom and directed third-person shooter Vanquish in 2010, and eventually founded his own studio Tango Gameworks. This is the team best known for The Evil Within and, most recently, Ghostwire: Tokyo. Mikami recently announced he would be departing the studio.

Mikami isn’t the only one who enjoyed the Resident Evil 4 remake. It launched to critical acclaim, with many outlets praising its visuals, enhanced gameplay, and emphasis on action and horror.

“Capcom has masterfully created a new version of a beloved game and continues to blaze a trail with its Resident Evil remakes. Like the Resident Evil 2 remake before it, the studio has used advancements in technology and design to modernize an iconic survival-horror and action game by placing emphasis on capturing the spirit of the original, and respectfully evoking the same sense of atmosphere and tone that the original developers aspired to,” wrote Kurt Indovina in the GameSpot Resident Evil 4 review.
