Simon Pegg Says Nobody Needs Shaun of the Dead 2

Shaun of the Dead star Simon Pegg has said nobody needs a sequel to the hit zom-com.

During an interview with The Guardian, Pegg revealed people always ask him about a potential sequel, and explained why it isn’t a good idea.

“If I ever do an Instagram Live or whatever, people are always like, ‘I need Shaun of the Dead 2 in my life,’ ” he revealed. “And I’m like, ‘No, you don’t f**king need Shaun of the Dead 2! The last thing you need is Shaun of the Dead 2! It’s done. Move on!’ ”

Pegg starred in Shaun of the Dead back in 2004. It’s a zombie rom-com that sees the titular hero trying to get back with his girlfriend while fending off a zombie apocalypse with his mate, Ed (played by Nick Frost).

The horror comedy, written and directed by Edgar Wright, soon became a cult hit. It also spawned two follow-ups: Hot Fuzz and The World’s End, which make up The Cornetto Trilogy.

Pegg is more interested in adding another film to the series than going back to do a Shaun of the Dead sequel. That’s right – Pegg teased he and Wright have met up to see if they can create a fourth film.

“Hard to believe it’s nine years since we were shooting The World’s End,” he said in an Instagram post earlier this year. “Hey [Nick Frost] and [Edgar Wright], it’s about time we assembled again, isn’t it?”

Each of the trilogy’s films has tackled a different genre: horror, buddy cop action movie, and sci-fi. It’s unclear what form a fourth movie would take. “Whatever Edgar and I do next, we’re not going to rely on what we’ve done before,” said Pegg. “I like the idea of pissing people off. There’s something fun about torching everything. Everything that people think we are, that’s what we won’t be. We should just do something that no one’s expecting, but no one wants!”

IGN’s Shaun of the Dead review gave it 8/10 and said: “Shaun has enough originality, clever set-ups, and witty humor to keep anyone entertained. Repeated viewings reveal some subtle touches that enrich the humor and clever set-up of the film. I wasn’t all that geared up hearing about yet another zombie movie, a genre of which I thought the well had already run dry long ago. How wrong I was – keep em’ coming!”
