Smartphones: 118 new emojis may come to your smartphone later this year – Times of India

Emojis have become a part of the lexicon and are used by most people who use a smartphone. Ahead of the World Emoji Day (it exists apparently), Emojipedia, the entity behind creating and designing emojis, has hinted at all the new emojis coming to iPhones and Android phones. Emojipedia has created sample designs for the new candidate emojis.

Lime, vertical head shake and more

“2023 is actually our ninth year of providing sample emoji designs ahead of their official arrival on emoji keyboards,” said Emojipedia in a blog post. A total of 108 new emojis are expected to arrive on the iPhone later this year. These include skin tone modifiers and gender variants, so the actual number will actually be less.
Some of the emojis that are part of there draft list include lime emoji, head shaking vertically, and a phoenix bird. Apart from these, there are four new gender-neutral family emojis intended to be represented via silhouettes.
Emojipedia makes it clear that actual vendor designs will vary from those released by major vendors. Furthermore, it said that this is only a draft emoji list, each emoji is subject to change prior to final approval in September 2023. This means that these emojis will be available only on iPhones sometime after iOS 17 is rolled out.
While it is a draft list and changes might happen before the final rollout, Emojipedia has a solid track record.“Changes to the final draft list have not occurred in recent years, with each of the emojis we’ve previewed since 2019, all being incorporated into the final list of recommendations,” the company noted in the blog post.
Also, it is likely that no new emojis will be added at this stage, “though there is a

very

slight chance that a draft emoji candidate is changed or removed ahead of September,” said Emojipedia.
