How will the feature work?
Users will find a new “AI” button alongside the camera button.Feeding in a simple prompt or keyword will trigger the AI, spitting out unique and often bizarre images based on the user’s input. “In just a few words, use AI to create and send a Snap of whatever you
know
will make a friend’s day, even when the perfect scene is out of sight,” said Snapchat. Furthermore, if you accidentally zoomed in too close, the AI powered extend tool on the camera to broaden your Lens for the “full picture”.
The feature, however, is available for Snapchat+, which is a subscriber-only paid model.
Snapchat has also revealed that Dreams, the imaginative Generative AI selfies, are now more fun when made with friends. Snapchat+ subscribers get one free pack of 8 Dreams a month.
The social media platform had already delved into AI space. “There are already so many ways for Snapchat+ members to express themselves with AI, whether they’re creating an original Generative AI Bitmoji Background or Chat Wallpaper, transforming themselves in imaginative ways with Dreams, or learning about the world through conversation with MyAI, the company said.
MyAI is a Snapchat chatbot, which is powered by OpenAI’s ChatGPT. In an interview with The Verge, Evan Spiegel, CEO, Snapchat had said, “The big idea is that in addition to talking to our friends and family every day, we’re going to talk to AI every day,” he says. “And this is something we’re well positioned to do as a messaging service.”
