Snapdragon 8 Gen 2: Here’s when Qualcomm may launch its next most powerful Android chipset – Times of India

American semiconductor company Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 is one of the most powerful Qualcomm chipsets for Android right now and is set to arrive on some of the latest flagships. Manufactured using a 4nm process, the flagship chipset comes with the 4th gen Snapdragon X65 5G Modem-RF System, and the company claims it to be the “most advanced 5G mobile platform” yet. As per new rumours, Qualcomm is already working on the successor of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1.
Tipster Mobile Chip Masters has claimed via Weibo that Qualcomm’s next most powerful Android chipset is already in the works and that the company plans to ship it by as early as May 2022. As per the leaker, the chipmaker has plans to produce more Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipsets compared to Gen 1 and perhaps the MediaTek Dimensity 9000 too, so that it could secure the production time on the 4nm TSMC node, as per a report by Notebook Check.
The report says that the reason for Qualcomm going for a bulk production of the Gen 2 chipsets could be to push MediaTek down when it comes to being the bigger customer of TSMC, which is entrusted with the production of the chips, and become the second biggest customer of TSMC in the process, pushing MediaTek down to the fourth place. The report also hints that the Gen 2 chipset in question could actually be a new wave of Gen 1 chipsets.
Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 is the successor to the Snapdragon 888 and is manufactured using 4nm process technology powered by Kryo CPU with Arm Cortex-X2 technology clocked at up to 3.0 GHz. The chipset is also paired with Qualcomm Adreno 660 GPU. When it comes to gaming, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 Mobile Platform is equipped with a full Snapdragon Elite Gaming feature that claims to bring ultra-smooth and colour-rich HDR scenes. Qualcomm has also included AudioKinetic Technology and Snapdragon Sound Technology to offer a better audio experience while gaming.
