Snap has unveiled its first AR game called Ghost Phone. It is a mystery horror game in which you try to uncover the truth behind what happened to the previous owner of a smartphone. To play this game, you’ll have to use your actual smartphone’s camera to look for ghosts (AR ghosts, actually) in your environment. It could be your home or office or any place you decide to play the game in. Ghost Phone is built using the Snap Lens and the Playcanvas engine. Snap Lens’s surface recognition is behind the ghosts appearing in the player’s own environment.
To locate the ghosts, there are different types of activities laid out for you in the game, like tracking floating balls of energy around your physical location. Tracking them can get you to the ghost. As you become better at the job and catch more ghosts, you’ll unlock more secrets of the abandoned mysterious phone in the game, like access to text messages and data which should give you some clue about what happened to its owner, Lisa. There are different Camera Modes which you will unlock as you progress through the game and it should help you find more AR ghouls.
So, basically, you have to solve the mystery of Lisa’s disappearance by catching and trapping the ghosts in the game, and the more of them you capture, the closer you will be to solving the mystery. It is what is called a ‘found-phone’ horror game.
