Sony brings new features to PlayStation 5 in beta: Key details – Times of India
Sony recently launched a beta update for PS5 testers as it plans to add some new and important features to the next-gen console. Only the selected testers will be allowed to access the early versions of some new improvements, the company announced on a blog post. The most notable among these changes is a new video resolution option which will currently allow beta testers to set the console display at 1440p. However, Sony has not officially confirmed the date when these features get a wider rollout.
Why the new video resolution option matters
The latest video resolution option of 1440p is the “middle-ground” between true 1080p HD and true 2160p 4K UHD. This intermediate video setting will be very useful for gamers who own TVs and monitors that support 1440p resolution. According to a report by Android Authority, if gamers lower the video resolution to 1440p in a PS5 game that supports 4K resolution, it is expected to improve the anti-aliasing graphics without the need to go down to the much lower 1080p setting.
Other new features
Sony also introduced another feature called “Gamelists” in the latest beta update which will allow testers to create custom lists of their PS5 games in their game libraries (for example “Favourite Action Games”). The new update supports creating up to 15 different gamelists where users will be allowed to add up to 100 games in each list.
The blog further explains that gamers can include all kinds of games regardless of their installation process (disc, digital, and streaming games), and it will also allow users to have the same game in different lists.
Apart from this, the latest beta update also offers gamers a new way to compare 3D and stereo audio settings on the same screen along with a quicker way to see where you left off in playing games. The new update will allow beta testers to request other online gaming party members to share their screens with them and will also get notified when a party member is playing a game that they can join online.
