Sony earphones, headphones getting ability to connect with two input devices simultaneously – Times of India

Sony is bringing updates to its older offerings and some new products. The update will allow selected earphones and headphones to connect with two input devices at the same time. The new products include a set of true wireless stereo (TWS) earphones that are partially made of plastic water bottles and a pair of LinkBuds Headphones that are certified for Microsoft Teams.
Multipoint Connection Software Update
Sony announced that all models in the LinkBuds series will also receive a software update by November of 2022 that will enable multipoint connection function. The feature allows users to connect to two input devices, such as a smartphone and a laptop, to the earphones at the same time.
So, if you are working in your office and listening to music on your laptop and get a call on your phone, the earbuds will automatically switch to the smartphone for a hands-free call without you having to manually switch connections. When you are done with your call, the earphones will switch back to the laptop and continue to play music.
Sony says that this feature will also help the Auto Play app that features automatic music playback according to the user’s activity. In addition to LinkBuds TWS earphones, the WF-1000XM4 headphones will also benefit from the more convenient Bluetooth function this winter.
While Sony has not explicitly mentioned about the markets in which this update will be rolled out, it seems to be a global announcement. Sony sells both WF-1000XM4 headphones and LinkBuds TWS earphones in India at Rs 16,990 and Rs 19,990, respectively.

LinkBuds S earphones in ‘Earth Blue’ colour
Sony is launching the LinkBuds S TWS earphones in a new “Earth Blue” colour. As per the company, some parts of the body and case of LinkBuds S in Earth Blue version are made from recycled water bottle materials. The earphones also include recycled materials from automobile parts.
LinkBuds UC for Microsoft Teams
Sony is also launching LinkBuds UC for Microsoft Teams – a model that is certified for Microsoft Teams. It will come with some improvements for online meetings. Sony says that the ring driver unit of the earphones have an open central diaphragm for audio transparency so that colleagues participating in Microsoft Teams meetings can have discussion without having to remove the earphones.
Other features of the LinkBuds UC for Microsoft Teams include tap function for calls and mute microphone. You can also configure raising hands for meetings in Microsoft Teams in the Headphones Connect App. The earphones will also get a USB transceiver so that you can connect your PC and mobile phone with the earphones. This will help users switch their Microsoft Teams meeting from their phone to their PC without having to reconnect their LinkBuds.
LinkBuds S Earth Blue and LinkBuds UC price
The LinkBuds S Earth Blue version price is $199.99 (approximately Rs 16,500) and LinkBuds UC will be priced at MSRP $249 (approximately Rs 20,550). They will be available in the US later this year and there is no information about their India launch.
