Sony Is Planning an ‘Aggressive’ Cloud Gaming Strategy Along With Two or More Major Releases Every Year
Sony Interactive Entertainment CEO Jim Ryan has revealed the future plans of the company. The gaming giant will now pursue “aggressive plans” for cloud gaming and release two or more AAA titles every year across genres.
Sony is also expecting to get substantial returns on its investment in the PC gaming ecosystem. The company is expecting to earn $450 million from its PC games in the next ten months.
Cloud gaming
Cloud gaming has been a hot topic for quite some while in the gaming industry. So far, we have seen Microsoft going all in for cloud gaming. Now, Sony is set to venture into that market. Jim Ryan said during a business call on Tuesday (as per VGC) that Sony will be releasing its plan “over the course of the coming months.”
He said, “We observe mobility in gaming habits to be an increasingly important trend, and the cloud will be fundamental to allowing us, or indeed anybody else, to exploit that trend.” Ryan added, “Unfortunately, today is not the place for me to disclose these plans, but we do have some fairly interesting and quite aggressive plans to accelerate our initiatives in the space of the cloud that will unfold over the course of the coming months.”
Sony to release at least two AAA titles every year
Sony has also told its investors that it will release two or more major PlayStation titles every year from now on, as reported by VG247. Sony’s first-party games will be single-player as well as live service games, and they will include all “major” genres. These will be shooters, action, sports, racing, platformers, and RPGs.
Sony’s expansion in the PC market
Sony has been working towards expanding its horizon beyond the scope of just its gaming consoles and entering the PC market. It has so far released God of War, Marvel’s Spider-Man, Spider-Man Miles Morales, Horizon Forbidden West, and other first-party titles on PC. The company said in an investor briefing that it is expecting to earn $450 million from PC games by March 31, 2024.
To put that figure into context, Sony earned $250 million in the previous fiscal year, $80 million in the year before that, and just $35 million before that year, as highlighted by Gamespot.
