Sony Pictures Networks India Debuts Four Animation Series Aimed At Adults

Sony Pictures Networks India, in partnership with YAY! Animations — which is a division of the media company — is making a bold move by introducing a diverse array of seven new shows.

This “Fresh Slate” caters to a global audience of all ages, spanning genres from action, adventure, sci-fi, drama, fantasy, to horror. But that’s not all; the line-up includes comedy and educational content aimed to resonate with kids worldwide.

However, the one that stands out the most is Karna The Guardian, which is made by a Japanese studio and created by an anime director.

New animated shows from Sony Pictures Networks

  1. Karna – The Guardian: This series merges Indian mythology with the creative flair of Japan’s Ascension studio. It follows an ordinary boy who discovers he’s the guardian of the three realms. With 12 episodes and each lasting 22 minutes, it’s directed by Tetsuo Hirakawa, who has worked on anime such as YU-No: A Girl Who Chants Love at the Bound of This World and Seraph of the End.
  2. Uncanny Short Stories – Satyajit Ray: An animated adaptation of 13 short stories from Academy Award Winner Satyajit Ray, delving into the supernatural, psychological, and macabre. With 13 episodes, each running for 22 minutes, this show offers a dose of captivating mysteries.
  3. The Besiegement: A horror show that follows Victor’s quest to confront and vanquish the ancient ghoul responsible for his family’s curse. Interestingly, the show will have ten episodes which would be 45 minutes each in duration.
  4. Makeup My Life: This series takes on the insecurities faced by teenage girls. It follows Maya, a timid teenager who stumbles upon a magical makeup box. Using different makeup products, she unlocks various aspects of her personality and embarks on a journey of self-assurance. Expect 13 episodes, each lasting 22 minutes.

Furthermore, three short shows for kids were also announced. These are W.H.A.T & the Dog, Young Achievers, and Omi No. 1.

Until now, the only choices were Western animated shows, anime, and independent online animators. It’s refreshing to see India’s animated content expanding to include adult audiences. So far, no additional details like sneak peeks or release dates have been revealed for this line-up of shows.
