Sony PlayStation and LeBron James Collaborate to Create Limited-Edition PS5 Design; PS3 Receives Surprising Firmware Update

Sony PlayStation has joined forces with Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James for a limited edition PS5 console system.

The collaboration as part of the PlayStation Playmakers program sees the NBA legend designing his very own limited-edition PlayStation 5 console cover and DualSense wireless controller.

The custom design features several imageries that’s synonymous with LeBron James. This includes the emphasis of his moniker of ‘King’, which has been bestowed upon him by fans of basketball. It also touches upon his I Promise initiative, which includes a public school in his birth city of Akron for underprivileged students.

“Designing a console cover and controller with PlayStation that gives a nod to my I Promise students and where we come from is a pretty cool thing,” said James upon collaborating with PlayStation. “I hope it’s something that continues to inspire everyone who touches it, and that they have a little fun finding meaning in every detail.”

PlayStation 3 receives odd firmware update in Year 17

Despite being two generations old, PlayStation 3 users received quite the surprise earlier this week, when a firmware update for the console dropped. The console debuted all the way back in 2006, and it’s quite intriguing to see Sony offer a firmware update almost 17 years later.

While it may be shocking to see a PS3 firmware update in 2023, the contents of the update won’t drop the jaws of any user. On the PlayStation website, it’s been revealed that the update in question only “improves system performance.”
