Sony PlayStation: More Details About the New Handheld Gaming Console Codenamed ‘Q Lite’ Out
Sony was once on the forefront of the handheld console gaming scene, but for years we haven’t seen any new device in the category from them. With the PSP, the company absolutely smashed it, bringing record sales for the device. However we can’t say the same for its successor PS Vita, which was also one of the contributing factors for Sony taking so long to come up with a new iteration for the device.

However, new information revealed by Tom Henderson from Insider Gaming points towards a new PlayStation handheld that seems to be in development. The handheld gaming console has been codenamed as Q Lite, and just like the PSVR2, this new device will also need a PS5 in order to perform its functions.
Another new detail in the report is that Q Lite is not the cloud-streaming device that it was thought to be earlier. Even Jeff Grubb referred to it as a cloud-streaming handheld in an earlier tweet. The device on the other hand seems to be a dedicated remote play handheld for playing PlayStation 5 titles.
I am traveling to Super Nintendo World, but I see the reports about a potential Vita 2, and I would definitely scope down those expectations. I’ve only ever heard about a cloud-streaming handheld.

Moreover, certain specifications about the device have also been revealed. It seems like the Q Lite will be inspired by the DualSense’s aesthetic. It is supposed to feature an 8-inch LCD screen that will support “adaptive streaming upto 1080p at 60fps.” Sony will also be bringing over its adaptive triggers and adaptive trigger functionalities to the Q Lite.
As for the release window, according to the report, the Q Lite at the moment is in its Q&A phase and will be coming out before Sony decides to push out the PlayStation 5 Pro. However, the PlayStation 5 with detachable disk drive should arrive sooner than Sony’s handheld gaming console. It will be exciting to see how the Q Lite stacks up against the likes of other heavy hitters such as the Nintendo Switch, Steam Deck, and the newly announced ROG Ally.
