Sony Playstation Store: COD MWII and FIFA 23 Top the Charts for Dec 2022; PS5 Gets DualSense Edge Support, Discord Coming Soon

Sony PlayStation Store has just released a blog post that details the top downloads for PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, PSVR, and free to play games in the month of December 2022. These charts include the top 20 games for each platform, across the US/Canada and EU Regions. They have also stated that next week we will see the list of top downloads for the entire year of 2022.

PS5, PS4 and New Games

PlayStation 5 Games first, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 and FIFA 23 are first and second in US/Canada region respectively. FIFA 23 takes the first spot in EU, followed by Modern Warfare 2. At the third spot for US/Canada is NBA 2K23 and Grand Theft Auto V for EU.

The story remains the same for PlayStation 4, Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 is first in US/Canada is FIFA 23 again for EU and vice versa for second. Here, NBA 2K23 remains third for US/Canada, but Minecraft one-ups GTA V in EU.

What’s more interesting is that games that released in the month of December have also managed to secure spots in the top 20 list. These games include The Callisto Protocol, Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII – Reunion, and Marvel’s Midnight Suns.

The Callisto Protocol takes the 6th spot across both US/Canada and EU. Then Crisis Core – Final Fantasy – Reunion was found at the 10th spot for both US/Canada and EU. Then at number 14 for US/Canada came Marvel’s Midnight Suns, they didn’t make it to the top 20 in EU. The above mentioned positions were for PS5, none of these games made it to the top 20 for PS4.

PSVR and free-to-play

There are two games dominating in PSVR too, with Beat Saber first in US/Canada and second in EU, vice versa for Job Simulator. The third position for both US/Canada and EU has been secured by one game, SUPERHOT VR.

In terms of free-to-play, Fortnite was first in US/Canada and Call of Duty: Warzone 2.0 for EU. Call of Duty: Warzone 2.0 took the second spot in US/Canada and Fortnite took second in EU. Overwatch 2 came in 3rd for US/Canada and Rocket League for EU.

DualSense Edge Support Arrives for PlayStation 5

As we all know, DualSense Edge, the elite gaming controller by Sony, arrives on January 26, 2023. For that reason, PlayStation 5’s latest software update consists of DualSense Edge support. This move will help testers and reviewers to test out the controller before it officially releases, and Sony can work out the kinks before customers get their hands on it.

On PlayStation.com, players will see that the latest system software update (Version: 22.02-06.50.00) consists of 2 pointers. In first, “The DualSense Edge wireless controller is now supported”. Also in second, “This system software update improves system performance”.

PlayStation 5 to integrate Discord in upcoming update

Lastly, according to a report by InsiderGaming, it has been revealed that Discord will be coming to PlayStation 5 through version 7.00 update. This update is scheduled to arrive on March 8, 2023. Moreover, another revelation tells us that players will also be able to stream PS5 games through cloud streaming.
