Sony: Sony adds accessibility tags for PS5, PS4 games on PlayStation Store – Times of India

PlayStation maker Sony has rolled out accessibility tags for PS5 games on its PlayStation Store. These new tags will help users to find games that accommodate players with disabilities. In 2021, Microsoft unveiled similar tags for Xbox gamers. Sony added these accessibility indication tags almost a year and a half after its arch-rival made them available.
The Japanese company has confirmed that these tags will be rolled out to titles within this week. The initial support will revolve around major games including — Death Stranding Director’s Cut, God of War Ragnarök and Spider-Man: Miles Morales.
Sony has also revealed that the it’s working with a “wide range of developers” to deploy these tags in the coming days. This means users can expect to see the tags in titles from smaller studios as well.
Importance of these tags
The tags are a part of Sony’s broader strategy to make gaming available for many more players. While looking at the game library on the PlayStation Store users can press the triangle button to check whether a title supports features that will help players with visual, audio and motor needs. These tags will also appear on games that support other accessibility features like — alternative colours, a screen reader and controller adjustments.

Developers prioritising accessibility in their games
The latest PlayStation Store upgrade will help in exposing and promoting the efforts of the game developers and studios that prioritise accessibility in their titles.
The Last of Us creator Naughty Dog has already added a special accessibility feature to the game. This feature plays dialogue through the PS5’s DualSense controller as haptic feedback.
Sony is also developing an accessible PS5 controller. Just like Microsoft’s Xbox Adaptive Controller, Sony’s gaming accessory will also help people with limited motor control to play games that might otherwise be unplayable for them.
