Sony’s new F 2.8 standard zoom lens is the world’s smallest and lightest – Smartprix

Sony has launched a new lens called FE 24-70mm GM II for its mirrorless E-mount lineup in India. The FE 24-70mm GM II (model SEL2470GM2)lens is world’s smallest and lightest F2.8 standard zoom lens. The lens is meant for Sony G-Master series cameras delivering a crisp bokeh effect in the portraits.

Sony FE 24–70mm F2.8 GM II is created to capture professional-level images and videos with crips details. The length of the new lens is 16mm and its complete volume is 18% lesser than the previous version. It weighs just 695 grams which makes it 20% lighter than its predecessor. But Sony has not compromised with the picture quality it will offer to the photographers, videographers, and high-end content creators.

The latest F.28 standard zoom lens offers a high-resolution delivery across the frame even if the aperture is opened wide. It provides exceptionally detailed and crisp results for both images and videos. The company admits to developing the new lens to meet the feedback from professional experts to provide better control and reliability for all kinds of environments.

Being the premium G Master standard zoom lens, it sports four original high-thrust XD (extreme dynamic) linear motors to ensure fast and precise AF performance with excellent response. With a minimum focusing distance of just 0.21 metres at 24mm and 0.30 metres at 70mm, it offers a deep bokeh for close-ups.

It comes with an aperture ring that has smooth ON/OFF and iris lock switches. The zoom smoothness switch allows adjusting the zoom ring torque at tight or smooth mode. The manual focus can be controlled with two provided customizable hold buttons to respond directly and linearly to subtle control. It ships with a lens hood to allow a friendly operation of circular polarising and variable ND (Neutral Density) filters.

The new F.28 standard zoom lens has its centre of gravity towards the mount for better handling, control, and operation of the camera. Sony assures to deliver an improved dust and moisture resistance design.
