Spatial Audio: Google Pixel Buds Pro’s Spatial Audio to get better, here’s how – Times of India
Last month, Google‘s newest Pixel Buds Pro received the long-promised Spatial Audio feature with the January feature drop for Pixel smartphones. Now, the Spatial Audio of Pixel Buds Pro could soon get as good as AirPods Pro‘s Spatial Audio, with the one missing feature — head tracking — that could arrive soon.
9to5Google reports that Google is readying the head tracking for Pixel Buds Pro, which should arrive in a future update. However, the team at 9to5Google forced an update to the Pixel Buds app, enabling the new settings page for Spatial Audio.
The Spatial Audio page in the Pixel Buds app shows an option to enable ‘Spatial Audio’ and ‘Head Tracking.’ Further, the page will also show the difference in the audio effect after enabling the head tracking.
The “See how it works” card will showcase the difference between regular Spatial Audio and with head tracking turned on. There will be a nature video with birds chirping and orchestral music, and more.
On the Pixel smartphones, the settings for Pixel Buds Pro will appear on the earbuds’ “Device details” page.
Google also has earlier confirmed that the Pixel Buds Pro will soon support head tracking, which should make Spatial Audio responsive to users’ movements.
Spatial Audio was added to the Pixel 6 and Pixel 7 series in a recent update. This feature enhances the immersive experience of surround sound, including 5.1 or 7.1 audio in movies or TV, when using Pixel Buds Pro or wired (USB-C) headphones.
AirPods Pro has had Spatial Audio with head tracking since the first generation.
The Spatial Audio’s head tracking feature employs built-in motion sensors within earphones or headphones to dynamically shift the mix according to your head movements. This creates the illusion that the various audio sources are fixed at distinct points around you.
