Spotify Goes Down for Many Users Before Service Restored
Streaming service Spotify Technology SA experienced an outage for the second time this month, temporarily disrupting service for thousands of users.
“Something’s not quite right, and we’re looking into it,” Spotify said in a tweet Thursday afternoon.
Spotify, which last went down on Jan. 13, said the latest issue affected the web player and app on different platforms.
Downdetector, which tracks internet outages, showed more than 40,000 outage reports for Spotify earlier in the day.
The number of reported outages has since declined sharply, suggesting that service has been restored for some users. “Everything’s looking much better now,” Spotify said, roughly two hours after the initial outage reports.
Internet outages are somewhat common.
Microsoft Corp.’s
popular Teams and Outlook software were down for thousands of users on Wednesday before the services were restored. Users were unable to access Microsoft’s collaboration software Teams, as well as Outlook and Xbox Live services and its 365 products, according to Downdetector.
Earlier this week, Spotify said it was laying off about 600 employees, or roughly 6% of its workforce, as part of a broader cost-cutting strategy. The move is the latest in a wave of layoffs in the technology industry.
