Sreesanth claims Gautam Gambhir called him ‘fixer’. Ex-opener responds
Sreesanth took to Instagram to address the incident and clarify the situation. In a video posted on the platform, he explained, “Many people have been asking me what happened. I went live to clear the air. On live TV, in the middle of the pitch, he called me a fixer…fixer…fixer. I didn’t respond with any abusive language, I simply questioned him, ‘What are you saying?’ I just sarcastically laughed it off. He even used the same language towards the umpires, despite me moving away.”
It is worth noting that Sreesanth was involved in the spot-fixing scandal in 2013 during the Indian Premier League, which led to his arrest by the Delhi Police. Subsequently, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) found him guilty and imposed a lifetime ban. Sreesanth challenged this decision in the Kerala High Court, which upheld the ban. However, in March 2019, the Supreme Court overturned the ban, reducing it to a seven-year suspension, which ended in 2020.
Gambhir, on the other hand, posted a cryptic tweet on Thursday. Interestingly, this tweet came just hours after a video surfaced on social media showing him arguing with Sreesanth. The caption of Gambhir’s post read, “Smile when the world is all about attention!” Accompanying the caption was a picture of Gambhir smiling.
Shifting focus to the match, India Capitals managed to post a formidable total of 223/7 in 20 overs, thanks to a half-century by Gambhir (51) and contributions from Ben Dunk (30) and Bharat Chipli (35). Rajat Bhatia (2/37) was the standout bowler for Gujarat Giants. Despite strong performances from Chris Gayle (84) and Kevin O’Brian (57) during Gujarat’s chase, exceptional death bowling by India Capitals prevented them from reaching the target, resulting in a 12-run victory for the Capitals. India Capitals will now face Manipal Tigers in the Qualifiers II on December 7, 2023.ers II on December 7, 2023.
